skype adjusting your mike volume, so as not to cause feedback

hey people, had a skype question, if anyone knows the answer, great, whenever i talk on skype, if i'm too loud, skype thinks its ok to adjust my mike volume, and eventually it gets so low that its hard for people to hear me and then i have to increase the volume again, any suggestions as to what i can do? i've tried editing the xml and looking in the options dialog and nothing seems to work, any ideas would help, thanks, kev
